It started with a vision. Why not create expert products and advice, for men and barbers alike? 


Before we were a team we were friends; James Adkin, Karl Mannerings and Sam Otway, who all shared a passion for barbering. James and Karl were barbershop customers and Sam was a British Master Barber. All three of us were always on the look out for better quality styling products. At the time, Britain was quickly developing a serious interest in men’s grooming products. We wanted to create a brand that would be championed by both the everyday man and the professional barber. 


Four distinctive products are carefully crafted. Closed on Monday is officially launched. 


Taking an innovative approach by blending our knowledge of what men want, with what barbers need, we painstakingly crafted four unique products. In October 2014 Closed on Monday officially launched with the Deluxe Pomade, Deluxe Wax, Matte Moisturiser and Beard Balm. The premium quality products were infused with aromatherapy worthy scents, all 100% made in Britain and set at an affordable price. 


We land a juggernaut of a deal with Birchbox. Hurling Closed on Monday into the media spotlight.


Just one month in and Closed on Monday attracts the attention of major beauty industry player, Birchbox. The subscription-based service needed to make a persuasive first impact with its first ever men’s offering. Our Beard Balm and Matte Moisturiser was their first choice.


That same month Closed on Monday became hot media property with features on ITV’s This Morning, Marie Claire’s online men’s directory and high profile blogs such as Mr Hyde, Lily Pebbles and Sunday Girl. 




It’s six months since launch. Our Deluxe Pomade is named the UK’s “Best Defining Styler”.


The industry’s prestigious Hair Magazine Awards recognises our Deluxe Pomade as the “Best Defining Styler”. This was an impressive feat having beaten the likes of Black and White, American Crew and The Bluebeards Revenge with a flawless 5/5 review. 


It’s time to add to the product line. The two new products become best sellers.


In June 2015 we added our Matte Paste and Strong Pomade, bringing us up to a six-strong product line, all still made in Britain. With new scents of zesty Sicilian lemon and black pepper the products quickly became best sellers, receiving rave reviews in the process. 


Opportunity knocks again. This time it’s a giant leap across the pond into the American market. 


In October 2015, our maturing partnership with Birchbox brings an enormous opportunity; to head Stateside. Initial concerns that the British reference of our name wouldn’t resonate with an American audience were quickly brushed away. We believe our commitment to producing quality products and sharing expert knowledge, has kept our appeal universal.  




With global ambitions our partnership with Mankind opens a door to Europe.


Not to rest on our laurels, a new partnership with Mankind, Europe’s largest etailer of men’s grooming products. Mankind announced the launch of Closed on Monday with a record-breaking social media post, shared by eager fans, keen to show their support. 


An award win, international media praise and one colossal event Stateside brought the lightning year to an end.


Proving our Hair Magazine Award was no fluke, we successfully defended our “Best Defining Styler” title with a second win. Coverage in the Huffington Post, Dejour, Esquire and GQ saw Closed on Monday champion the art of British barbering on both sides of the Atlantic.


The year rounded off with a milestone event sponsored by Esquire magazine. Closed on Monday’s Master Barbers were flown to New York to barber live at the launch of the new Reiss department store on Madison Avenue.
